The largest collection of comic books includes 101,822 unique items and is owned by Bob Bretall (USA) of Mission Viejo, California, USA. The achievement was verified on 6 August 2015.
The above total only includes the number of unique comic books, any duplicates were not included in the total. Bretall keeps his collection mainly in his three-car garage however he also has a "comic room" with selected comic books and other associated memorabilia.
Take a leaf out of Bob’s book and find out what it’s like to be a comic-collecting aficionado:
What made you start collecting?
My older brother gave me a “coupon” good for 10 comics when I was eight. The first comic I bought was Amazing Spider-Man #88 and I fell in love with the character, the art (by John Romita Sr.), and the story (by Stan Lee).
What is the last comic that you read?
I read over 100 new comic books every month, so this answer will be different every time you ask it. I’m writing this on July 22, 2015, and the last comic I read was Starve #2 (Image Comics).
Any favorite superheroes?
My favorite superhero would have to be Spider‑Man, since he got me into collecting. I’ve always liked the human problems Peter Parker faced. That said, I would like to emphasize that there are a lot of things besides superhero comics out there.
