The longest waterfall descent by kayak (female) is 31.69 metres (104 feet), achieved by Nouria Newman (France) on Don Wilo's Falls on the Río Pucuno, west of Concepción in Orellana, Ecuador, on 18 February 2021.


A documentary film entitled Wild Waters (2022) covered the backstory of Newman's rise to the top of whitewater kayaking and passion for waterfall running including her record-breaking descent of the Río Pucuno cascade in 2021; she is the first woman to successfully run a waterfall taller than 100 ft (30.48 m).

The male record for waterfall running stands at 57 m (189 ft), achieved by Tyler Bradt (USA) on the Palouse Falls, Washington, USA, on 21 April 2009; and equalled by Knox Hammack and James Shimizu (both USA) at the same location on 2 April 2019.
