The largest offshore windfarm is Hornsea 2, built by Ørsted (DNK) in the North sea about 89 km (55 mi) off the coast of Yorkshire, UK. The facility, which was declared fully operational on 31 August 2022, has 165 Seimens Gamesa 8-megawatt wind turbines, providing a power-generating capacity of 1,320 gigawatts. When combined with the adjacent 1,218-megawatt Hornsea 1 wind farm (the previous holder of the record) and the under-construction 2,852-megawatt Hornsea 3 farm, this development will soon provide enough power for around six million homes.
