On 8 September 2013, Jang-Soon – a reticulated giraffe living in Samsung Everland safari park in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do province, South Korea – gave birth to her 18th calf.
The calf was born on Jang-Soon’s 27th birthday.
In the wild, reticulated giraffes can be found in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya, but the UK-based Giraffe Conservation Foundation claims that fewer than 5,000 individuals remain as of 2013.
