Marie Curie, born Slodowska (France), was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903 in recognition of the extraordinary services she had rendered, with husband Pierre Curie, by their joint researches on the radiation phenomena discovered by Professor Henri Becquerel. She was the first female to be awarded the famous prize.
