Llullaillaco, on the Argentina-Chile border, is a stratovolcano on a plateau within the Atacama Desert. Its last recorded eruption was in 1877 and, at 6,739 m (22,109 ft) high, it is the tallest volcano on Earth that has been active in recorded history.
