The world's rarest species of willow, the only willow ranked as Critically Endangered by the IUCN, is the Tarragonès willow (Salix tarraconensis). This small deciduous Spanish shrub is known only from a few dispersed populations, usually containing 10-40 specimens, in the coastal cordillera between Castellón and Tarragona.
