The largest known ammonite is Parapuzosia seppenradensis. An incomplete fossil shell discovered in Germany in 1895 measured 1.95 m (6.4 ft) across, but the complete shell is estimated to have been approximately 2.55 m (8.3 ft). Ammonites were related to squids and octopuses but lived inside coiled shells, and this particular species was alive during the late Cretaceous Period (99.6 million to 65.5 million years ago).
