Kang Kek lew (Cambodia), often referred to as ?Comrade Duch?, was responsible for running the Tuol Sleng prison in Cambodia, SE Asia, when the country was under control of Pol Pot's regime during the 1970s. Between 1977 and 1979, of the fifteen thousand people who entered the prison, only some 15 emerged alive. Most suffered degrading and cruel forms of torture. At his UN-backed trial in November 2009, prosecutors demanded a 40-year prison sentence for him based on war crimes, crimes against humanity, torture and murder.
