Designed by Swiss architecs Herzog & de Meuron, the Beijing Olympic Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, cost $423 million to construct and has a floor space of 258,000 m² (2,777,088 ft²) on a 21 ha (51 acre) site. The main body of the stadium is a saddle-shaped elliptic steel structure weighing 38,101 tonnes (42,000 tons).
