The East Pacific Rise is a tectonic plate boundary which runs from Antarctica to the west coast of the USA. At this type of boundary new crust is being created and the continental plates are moving apart. A portion of the East Pacific Rise, called the Pacific-Nazca boundary, is pushing continental plates apart at a rate of around 150 km/million years (93 miles/million years).
