O’Sullivan equalled Davis’s record of 30 Crucible appearances when he played David Gilbert in the first round of the 2022 World Snooker Championship. Both players are six-time winners of the title – Davis in 1981, 1983–4 and 1987–89, and O’Sullivan in 2001, 2004, 2008, 2012–13 and 2020.
