The team’s gas balloon, or Charlière, was inflated with hydrogen and had sand bags for ballast. The duo sat in an open wicker basket for 3 days, 1.5 of them over the Mediterranean, while competing in the 53rd edition of the oldest balloon racing event, the Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett, established in 1905.
