The largest haul of Anglo Saxon treasure was a collection of over 1,500 gold and silver pieces estimated to date from the 7th century found in a farmer's field at an undisclosed location in Staffordshire, UK. The find was discovered by metal detectorist Terry Herbert (UK) and was formally declared as treasure, and therefore belonging to the Crown, by South Staffordshire coroner Andrew Haigh. At the time of its announcement on 24 September 2009, the find included at least 650 items of gold, weighing more than 5 kg (11 lb), and 530 silver objects totaling more than 1 kg (2.2 lb) in weight.
