Based upon an average commuter journey into a city centre by the most popular public means, London is the most expensive city for commuters, averaging $4.33 (£2.62) per single journey. The results were drawn from Mercer's Worldwide Cost of Living 2009 survey, which studies the cost of 200 items and services - including mass transit - in 143 cities across six continents.
Tokyo, Japan, remains the most expensive city in terms of cost of living, followed by Osaka, Japan; Moscow, Russia; Geneva, Switzerland; and Hong Kong.
