The longest unbeaten run in international football is 35 games and was achieved by Brazil from 16 December 1993 until 18 January 1996 and equalled by Spain from 11 October 2006 until 20 June 2009. In this period Brazil won the 1994 World Cup, reached the 1995 Copa America final and reached the final of the 1996 Gold Cup. Their run was ended with a 2-0 defeat in the Gold Cup final Mexico. During the 35 game run they did lose one game by penalty shoot-out (the 1995 Copa America final to hosts Uruguay) but were still unbeaten after extra time. Spain on the other hand won the 2008 European Championships and reached the semi-finals of the 2009 Confederations Cup before losing to the United States. They also won a record 15 consecutive games before that defeat.
