                        The most tries scored in an IRB Rugby Union World Cup match by an individual is six and was achieved by Marc Ellis (New Zealand) in the 1995 World Cup for the All Blacks against Japan, at Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein, South Africa, on 4 June 1995. 
The match was in the first round of the tournament. The final score of the match was 145-17 in New Zealand's favour (the highest score in a Rugby Union World Cup match) with the All Blacks running in 21 tries in total and scoring 20 conversions. Ellis didn't score again in the tournament ending on seven tries (he had previously scored against Wales).
