Private Teruo Nakamura (Taiwan), who served during World War II in the Imperial Japanese Army, did not surrender until 1974. He was stationed on Morotai Island in Indonesia, which was captured by the Allies in September 1944. Private Nakamura remained there, in hiding long after the Allies departed.
