The attempt was made in commemoration of the 50th annual Esashi Jinku Festival which has actually been around for around 300 years and always includes the dance. The origin of the dance goes back around 600 years ago, and it has been traditionally danced on auspicious occasions. The dance has been popular as it brings good fortune. In 1974, when the first Esashi Jinku Festival was held, a new version of the dance was created and the participants paraded through the city. Today, the dance is performed at various events and is a popular folk dance enjoyed by both children and adults in the community.
