In terms of its global reach, the most successful telenovela is Yo Soy Betty, La Fea ("I am Ugly Betty"), created by Fernando Gaitán (Colombia), which aired on Colombia's RCN Television network from 1999 to 2001. It has gone on to be the first truly global telenovela, being shown in its original form throughout Latin America and Spain, and dubbed for at least 15 other countries. Adaptations or remakes have also been produced in 19 other languages, with the American remake alone showing on at least 50 TV networks around the world.
