The most penalties in a rugby union international career is 281, achieved by Dan Carter (New Zealand) from 21 June 2003 to 31 October 2015. He kicked four penalties in his final game, New Zealand’s 34–17 victory over Australia in the final of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Carter surpassed Jonny Wilkinson’s record of 255 penalties against Scotland on 15 November 2014. As of November 2017, they remain the only players in history to have surpassed 250 penalties at international level.
