Poorest citizens

The Democratic Republic of the Congo contains the world’s poorest citizens as of 2012. The DRC has been racked by violence for two decades, scarred by a long civil war and constant invasions by forces struggling over its cobalt, copper and diamonds, and with each citizen having on average only $400 a year to live on every year. Zimbabwe has endured misgovernment, economic mismanagement and a bout of hyperinflation, all of which wiped out both savings and incentives: Zimbabweans must subsist on about $500 annually.
