China is responsible for the greatest production of sulphur dioxide the primary contributor to acid rain pumping out 34,204,700 tonnes annually. Sulphur dioxide forms when fuel containing sulphur, such as coal and oil, is burned, when gasoline is extracted from oil, or when metals are extracted from ore. SO2 not only damages ecosystems but can also affect breathing and may aggravate existing respiratory and cardiovascular disease.
