Queen Mary II, at 148,528 gross registered tonnes, is the largest passenger ship to circumnavigate the globe. The last great ocean liner, towering as high as a 23-storey building and covering an area almost as large as four American football fields, set off on her first world cruise on 10 January 2007 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and completed the trip in 81 days.
Almost 500 passengers signed up for the entire trip, some paying in excess of $100,000. On a typical trip, the ship starts out with 6,000 bottles of Champagne; the library is the largest afloat, with 8,000 volumes, as is the dance floor.
