The surreal ending of Monkey Island 2: Le Chuck’s Revenge massively split opinion and the debate still rages today over whether it is the most frustrating or best ending ever created. At the end of the game, LeChuck cast a spell on Guybrush, not only convincing him that LeChuck was his brother but that they were both children in an amusement park and that they had to meet their parents. LeChuck turned towards the screen, his eyes glowing and Elaine was shown pondering Guybrush’s whereabouts. This prompted a flood of angry mail to magazines and LucasArts at the time from a number of disappointed fans of the series.
