Chris Gayle's (Jamaica) man-of-the-match-winning 146 not out for the Rangpur Riders against the Dhaka Dynamites in the final of the 2017 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 12 December, included 18 sixes (108 runs) – beating his own record by one six. The 69-ball onslaught was the highest score in the history of the BPL.

Gayle's previous record of 17 sixes was made for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League in Bangalore, India, on 23 April 2013. He finished that innings on 175 not out – the most runs scored by a player in a Twenty20 match (male).

Gayle's innings in the BPL final was his 20th Twenty20 ton of his career, which, combined, have produced 227 sixes (an average of 11.35 sixes per innings).

As of 12 December 2017, Gayle had scored an unrivalled 11,056 runs in 320 Twenty20 matches (314 innings) around the world – including 819 sixes (4,914 runs). The hard-hitting left-hander's tally includes runs in domestic Twenty20 competitions in Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Zimbabwe, plus stints in the Caribbean Premier League and his international career with the West Indies, which had produced 1,577 runs in 52 games (49 innings) as of the same date.
