Military-themed third-person action adventure Hunter is widely credited as the first videogame to provide open-world gameplay in 3D. The game was released in 1991 for Atari ST and Amiga – some 10 years before Grand Theft Auto 3 – and was designed by Paul Holmes for Activision.
