The earliest rumble controller for a video game console was the Rumble Pak which was launched in April 1997 to coincide with the release of the rail shooter game Star Fox 64. It slotted into the hand controller’s memory cartridge slot and gave feedback to the player – ie, it made the controller rumble at appropriate moments. This rumble feedback has since become an industry standard feature.
