Dance Dance Revolution (or DDR) became the first video game in the world to be given the status of an official sport when, in Oslo, Norway, on 9 December 2003, it was registered under the term “machine dancing”. New York based Dance Dance Revolution league Maximum Overdrive has since begun an online petition to have the game recognized as a sport in the US, and has collected more than 700 signatures.

As of 4 January 2016, it had collected more than 850 signatures.
