The therapods (beast-footed) are the group of dinosaurs that many scientists believe evolved into birds. They included the fearsome Tyrannosaurus rex, Allosaurus, and the even bigger Giganotosaurus, which lived between 93 and 89 million years ago and could grow to an estimated 13 m (43 ft) long with a weight of 6 tonnes (13,230 lb).
