Most heat-tolerant worm

Only scientifically described as recently as 1980, and living in association with deepsea hydrothermal vents sited on the Pacific ocean bed just off the Galapagos Islands, the world’s most heat-tolerant worm is the Pompeii worm (Alvinella pompejana). This small polychaete worm attaches itself to black smoker vents, and thrives at temperatures of up to 80ºC. Only the tardigrades can tolerate higher temperatures.
