The insect that feeds on the greatest number of plant species, over the widest range, is the caterpillar of the fall webworm moth Hyphantria cunea, a member of the tiger moth family, Arctiidae. It has been estimated that its caterpillars feed on 636 species of plant worldwide, including over 200 in the USA, 219 in Europe, over 300 in Japan, and 65 in Korea (some of these plant species are found in more than one of the above regions).
