The largest species of woodlouse is the common sea slater (Ligia oceanica), an aquatic species that is abundant on rocky coasts within the terrestrial and littoral fringe around Britain, particularly in rock pools and crevices and under stones. Up to 3 cm (1 in) long in total, it has a dorsoventrally flattened body that is twice as long as broad, and varies in colour from grey to olive.
