The largest mammal to spontaneously blow-up due to internal gases gathering as it decomposed was a 17-m (55-ft 9-in) long sperm whale weighing 50 tonnes (110,230 lb). The bull whale had died after becoming beached in southwest Taiwan, and was then removed by being placed on the back of a truck. As the truck was driving through Tainan City on 26 January 2004, it exploded, covering nearby shop-fronts, pedestrians and vehicles in splattered blood and entrails!
