The upper limit is accepted be 20000Hz (cycles per sec), although it has been alleged that children with asthma can detect sounds of 30000 Hz. Bats emit pulses at up to 90 000 Hz. It was announced in February 1964 that experiments in the USSR had conclusively proved that oscillations as high as 200 000 Hz can be detected if the oscillator is pressed against the skull.
