The world’s largest species of mantis is officially Toxodera denticulata from Java. It has a body length of 20 cm (7.8 in). However, a newly discovered, currently undescribed species from the Cameroon jungle, but which has already begun to appear in the pet trade, where it has been dubbed the mega-mantis, exceeds this length. Moreover, there are unconfirmed reports of a still-longer species inhabiting the rainforests of Bolivia and Peru.
