As of December 2024, the best-selling first-person shooter (FPS) game is Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Treyarch, 2015). As set out in a court filing, an Activision executive revealed that Black Ops III had sold 43 million units over its lifetime, although it cost a hefty $450 m (£358 m) in development costs.

The record was previously held by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (Valve, 2012) which had shipped 40 million units by 26 March 2019.
