The longest fingernails on a pair of hands (male) belong to Lưu Công Huyền (Vietnam) and measure 594.45 cm (19 ft 6 in), as verified in Nam Định province, Vietnam, on 15 January 2025.
Mr Huyền has been growing his fingernails for 34 years. He grew up hoping to follow in his father's footsteps and become a shaman, and believed that growing his fingernails would make him more powerful and effective in this role. But he was also a keen artist and ended up taking his father's advice to focus on a career as a painter instead. By the time he began painting, he was already committed to cultivating his long nails, and he still believes that breaking or trimming his nails will make him ill. With the help of his wife, Thi Thuan, he continues to make a living as an artist, painting murals on homes and churches throughout Nam Định province.
The total length is based on the average of two sets of measurements taken at Hr Huyen's home by GWR Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday. The nails of his left hand total 388.85 cm while his right nails total 205.6 cm. His longest fingernail is on his left thumb, which measures 127.5 cm (4 ft 2 in). As he is right-handed, Mr Huyền has suffered more breakages to his right nails. He has had two significant breaks of his right ring finger (digitus medicinalis) - of 29.5 cm and 19 cm - and although he keeps the broken pieces in a display cabinet in his living room, they do not count towards the total length.
