The oldest survivng international football competition in which national teams compete is the South American Championship (Copa América since 1975), organised by the South American Football Confederation, Conmebol. It was first held in Argentina in 1916, with Venezuela hosting Copa América 2007- its 42nd tournament.
It has been held every two years since 1987.
