Ellison shot his record score in the preliminary ranking round of the 2019 Pan American Games. He beat Kim Woo-jin’s record of 700, set at the 2016 Olympic Games.
In outdoor target archery, the 72-arrow round is a preliminary round used to ascertain seedings for the head-to-head matchplay rounds. Each arrow – shot from a distance of 70 m – can earn a maximum of 10 points for hitting the 12.2-cm-diameter inner ring on the target, offering a total possible score of 720.
