The most wins of the long distance Orienteering World Championships by a female competitor is eight by Simone Niggli-Luder (Switzerland) in 2001, 2003, 2005-06, 2009-10 and 2012-13.
This has been contested annually since 1966, and was previously known as the classic distance. Simone Niggli-Luder has won 23 World Championship gold medals in total across all disciplines including a clean sweep in 2003 and 2005, where she won all four golds on offer.
