The most wins of the long distance event at the World Orienteering Championships by a male athlete is 6, by Olav Lundanes (Norway) in 2010, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Lundanes won his sixth long-distance title in Østfold, Norway, on 14 August 2019. He completed the 16.6-km-long course, complete with 26 controls, in a time of 1:30:09. It was his fourth consecutive victory in the event. The long distance has been contested at every World Orienteering Championships since its inaugural edition in 1966. It was previously known as the “individual” and “classic distance”.
