The World Islands, 4 km (2.5 miles) off the coast of Dubai, is an enormous project to construct more than 300 small islands that collectively resemble the shape of Earth’s continents. When complete, it will cover an area of 9 x 6 km (5.5 x 3.7 miles), with each island measuring between 23,000 - 86,000 m² (247,570 - 925,696 ft²). As of December 2006, more than 90% of the land reclamation on which each island will be developed was complete.
