On 3 March 2005, US entrepreneur Walter Anderson, was charged with carrying out the world’s largest ever tax scam by failing to pay more than $200 million (£103 million) in personal income taxes. Over one year later on 8 September 2006, Mr Anderson admitted to two accounts of evading taxes and one of fraud, and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. He further pleaded guilty to hiding $365 million (£188 million) of income by through using personal aliases, shell companies, offshore tax havens, and secret accounts.
