The largest winning margin in a UEFA Champions League football match is eight goals and was first achieved when Liverpool (UK) beat Besiktas (Turkey) 8–0 at Anfield, Liverpool, UK, on 6 November 2007. The feat was equalled by Real Madrid (Spain), who beat Malmö (Sweden) by the same scoreline at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, Spain, on 8 December 2015.
Incredibly, Rafa Benitez was manager for both games and Alvaro Arbeloa played in both matches on the winning side.
The most recent game in Madrid was also historic, with Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring hat-tricks – the first time two players had scored hat-tricks in a single Champions League match.
