The highest recorded song in a hot air balloon was achieved by the rock band, The Girls, made up of Steven Evansson (vocals, keys) and Joseph Short (vocals, guitars) and featuring Andrew 'Mushroom' Vowles on decks, drummer Clive Deamer and Jon Head on double bass (all UK), at an altitude of 1,848 m (6,063 ft) on 31 May 2006. Their Virgin Balloon, piloted by Mark ‘Nobby’ Simmons (UK), took off at 8 pm from Bath, Somerset,UK and landed at 9 pm in Westbury, Wiltshire, UK, during which time they performed their set, including a specially-written song What I Did Today) to two paying audience members. During the recording of this song, the pilot had to fly the balloon without using the gas!
