Algeria's drought began at the 1986 World Cup losing their final two group games 1-0 and 3-0 to Brazil and Spain respectively, in their next appearance in 2010 they failed to score in all three group games losing 1-0 to Slovenia and USA with a 0-0 draw with England sandwiched in between those matches. Having failed to qualify for another World Cup until 2010, they failed to register a goal in their three group matches during the tournament in South Africa. They then equalled the record with a 3-0 defeat to France in their opening match of the 2014 World Cup.
