The most enduring cartoon character to be printed in the same newspaper is Rupert Bear, who first appeared in the Daily Express (UK) on 8 November 1920, and then six days each week, Monday to Saturday, as of 9 May 1925 until now. Since 1981, reprints of Rupert's cartoon appeared in the Sunday newspaper's supplement, the Sunday Magazine, and more recently in 2003 his daily cartoon has been printed in the Sunday Express itself. Rupert Bear was created by Mary Tourtel (UK), who illustrated the newspaper stories between 1920-1935.
There were a few days during World War II when other news replaced Rupert's feature, plus he did not appear in some Christmas Eve editions.
