The largest panda cub born in captivity weighed 218 g (7.6 oz) when he was born at the Wolong Giant Panda Research Centre, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China on 7 August 2006. The cub is the first offspring of Zhang Ka, who was in labour for 34 hours, itself the longest recorded labour for captive pandas.
The average weight of new-born pandas is 83–190 g (3–6.7 oz). The cub was born as a result of artificial insemination.
