The most hula hoops spun simultaneously around the neck is 17 and was achieved by Lucy Benson (UK) in London, UK, on 22 May 2022.
Lucy is always wanting to keep pushing her limits in hula hooping. "I am inspired by my late nephew Max and his bravery, he inspires me to be brave and to take on exciting challenges in his memory."
Lucy has been training as a hula hooper for many years now and neck hooping has always been a skill she has enjoyed. "As I started to challenge myself by adding more hoops I realised I could take this to an exciting place if I kept working hard. Neck hooping is great fun, but also can be quite daunting as the hoops are heavy and come so close to the face. I like how this challenges me to be brave and courageous."
Lucy's training involved months of strength training and conditioning, along with many hula hoops. "I may have also broken a few ornaments when training at home."
On the day Lucy felt the nerves creep in. "But I was more excited than anything else. It was a really fun experience and I felt full of adrenaline and joy. As the hoops were so heavy and the neck is so fragile I took my time recovering with lots of stretches and hot bubble baths over the following couple of weeks."
"It would mean everything to me to be a Guinness World Records title holder. I have such a passion for hula hooping and being recognised at this level is such a privilege and an honour."
